Moon Trading Glossary

This article will help you understand various terms throughout the trading application.

Available Balance

The amount of funds currently available to open new positions. Funds committed to active trades are excluded from your available balance until those positions are closed or reduced.

For example, if your total balance is $100 and $50 is being used in an open trade, your available balance will be $50.

Flip

Instantly reverse your position by closing your existing trade and opening a new trade in the opposite direction at the current market price. An Open Fee of 1% will be applied each time you flip a position.

Leverage

Instead of trading only with the funds you commit to a position, leverage enables you to control a larger position size.

For example, a $100 wager with 10x leverage gives you exposure to $1,000 worth of the asset.

Leverage amplifies both profits and losses. This means that even small market movements can have a larger impact on your position compared to trading without leverage.

Example

  • Wager Amount: $100

  • Leverage: 10x

  • Market Exposure: $1,000

If the asset price increases by 1%, your position gains approximately 10% depending on slippage. However, if the asset price decreases by 1%, your position loses approximately 10%.

Higher leverage increases potential returns, but it also increases risk by reducing the amount of price movement required to reach liquidation.

In simple terms: leverage lets you trade a larger position with a smaller amount of capital, but both gains and losses are magnified.

Max Loss Amount

The Max Loss Amount is the most you can lose on a position. Even when using leverage, Moon limits your risk to your original wager, meaning you can never lose more than the amount you committed to the trade.

Max Loss Price

Max Loss Price is the asset price at which your position will reach its maximum allowable loss and be automatically closed.

At the Max Loss Price, you will lose your entire wager amount, but no more. Regardless of the leverage used, Moon limits your maximum loss to the capital committed to the trade.

Higher leverage brings your Max Loss Price closer to your entry price, meaning smaller market movements can result in your position reaching its maximum loss.

Example

If you open a trade with a $100 wager, your maximum possible loss is $100.

If the market reaches your Max Loss Price, your position will be closed automatically and your loss will be capped at $100, regardless of your leverage or total market exposure.

In simple terms: your Max Loss Price is the point at which your trade reaches its maximum loss and your entire wager has been exhausted.

Moon Sentiment

Moon Sentiment indicates whether traders are predominantly positioned Up or Down on a particular asset.

Sentiment is calculated based on the number of currently open positions in each direction. If more traders have open Up positions than Down positions, the sentiment will be shown as Up. Conversely, if more traders are positioned Down, the sentiment will be shown as Down.

Example

If an asset has:

  • 20 open Up positions

  • 10 open Down positions

The Moon Sentiment for that asset would be Up.

In simple terms: Moon Sentiment provides a real-time view of how other traders on the platform are positioned for a particular asset.

Open Fee

A 1% Opening Trade Fee is charged when a new position is opened.

This fee is calculated solely on your wager amount — the amount of capital you commit to the trade — and is not calculated on your total leveraged exposure.

For example, if you open a position with a $1,000 wager and select 10x leverage, your market exposure will be $10,000.

However, the Opening Trade Fee is calculated only on your $1,000 wager, resulting in a fee of $10.

The applicable fee will be displayed before you confirm your trade on the trade summary area.

Rolling Fee

Positions held open beyond the initial trading period are subject to a Rolling Fee.

This fee is assessed every 8 hours while a position remains open and reflects the cost of maintaining market exposure over time.

The Rolling Fee is dynamic and may vary based on factors including market conditions, asset volatility, liquidity, and broader funding costs. The applicable rate is displayed within the platform and automatically incorporated into your position costs

Wager

Wager Amount is the amount of money you choose to risk on a trade. It represents your maximum possible loss if the trade reaches its Max Loss Price
